Suspended Cop Leads Police on High Speed Pursuit
Detroit Free Press
May 17, 2008
DETROIT, MI – A suspended Detroit Police officer was arrested following a high-speed chase on his motorcycle this morning.
It is not clear if the officer is in jail, or what, if any, charges will be filed against him.
The 23-year-old officer, who has not been identified, has been on a two-year suspension since November 2006 after firing a gun during a fight, Detroit Police said.
Police initially said the officer was arrested on a drunken-driving charge.
The male officer was reportedly observed weaving on the motorcycle and a chase ensued, police said.
The motorcycle reached speeds “well over 100 mph” at times and went through traffic signals at several intersections before the officer was finally stopped and taken into custody near Grand River and Telegraph on the city’s northwest side, police said.
