my bottom line says it all.......!

I'm the same person but have become able to see through the B$ that makes up the world MUCH easier and not take things personally. I still give everyone the same fair shake. I saw a post last night about security guards and the demeanor they project to the public. With an air of professionalism and respect given to the public, they may hate me and my job but things get done and then they move on. There are times that I have to BITE MY TONGUE and HAD to have more of a rough exterior. Someone last week brought up the point that learning to exist outside the public gaze and look 'Right Through The Crowd' when there's chaos and people complaining has become MUCH easier.....

Oh yeah!! I have gotten less tolerant of some people's never ending stupidity. I worked in corrections for 4 years and have been in dispatch/records for 1 year. I have learned that you can't fix stupid is more than a comedians line for his/her act. I am constantly amazed at how easy it is for some idiots to lie,cheat,and steal without thinking twice.Or are they capable of thinking? Genetics must play a big part in this. Generation after generation come to our fine establishment to rest for a spell. I was extremely naive before being employed as a corrections officer(and to an extent still am),but I have learned that most people we deal with will lie if it helps their situation and most of the time even if it doesn't. I still try to be fair and help people but 90 percent of the time,they will turn on you before you are finished dealing with them.

Well, I have worked some REALLY crappy spots; scum is too nice a word to describe these people. I've done everything possible to get out of the field, but for some reason I can't; I don't blame anyone, I just can't seem to get over this hurdle. I actually decided to make the proverbial "lemonade" and start my own security co. I figure I may as well do awesome for myself rather than for someone else (part of the reason I'm disgruntled is the lack of having a legit security co. in town; Allied Barton is not excluded). 

I'd like to say thanks to those of you who have posted.

To "Riot": have you ever been security? See, at least with being a CO or LEO, you're there, you know? With security, you're nothing. The ridicule is terrible...maybe it's just a San Antonio thing. Idk. People down here make sure you feel like crap for being security. meh...I'm done with this topic. If you haven't done security in high risk areas, for minimum wage, and been made fun of every step of the way...I don't want to hear it. I'm not gonna pretend to know what it's like to be  a CO or LEO, I 'd appreciate it if it went both ways. Thank you. Everyone have a nice day.

Yes I've been security...I got worse from my peers when I was an Explorer than when I was security.

No offense bro, but this is the exact attitude that security officers get mocked for. "I'm sorry but if you haven't been there then you don't know."

What???? Been where? A club? In a parking lot? Holy hell...your duty is for the property and nothing else. For an LEO his/her duty is to the public. You can walk off and say "I was gonna radio for help." The police are your help. I am not LEO and I wont claim to be...but come on dude, if you want to meassure penises I'm sure there's another site for that.

Being in Corrections for 9 years made me a bit of an azzhole as my current wife, an ex-girlfiriend and my ex-wife all told me over the years. Oh well $hit happens.......

I've been a security officer, a CO and for the past eight years I've been LEO. Riot has a point regarding your statements and your attitude. I've been on the crap end of the stick as a security officer, and I've received my fair share of insults and ridicule, but you know what? Who gives a rats a$$. I was working towards a goal and most importantly I was providing for my family. Also, what makes you think that I didn't catch flak when I was a CO and also an LEO?

If you plan on continuing on to a LEO career, then you would be better served by remembering that being a LEO isn't about the badge, uniform, or the car you get to drive. It's about attitude, presence of mind, and the ability to project self confidence. That also applies to any job that you may have.

If you are wanting to continue along a path to law enforcement, then I wish you the best of luck, but you are going to need to develop a little thicker skin.

If the job is getting to ya....Maybe is time to get out and find another line of work.  I don't want you to get hurt. 

After only two years of constant employment in security you believe the job is responsible for your personality, my guess is you very little personality to beging with, christ man, 2 years and your a burn out already. I see where you think you have seen the worse of humanity but unless your in charge of peace in the Gaza strip stop with the pity party and the over inflated and embellished danger, there is an abundant of boredom in every profession, like most certified officers here the first time in a patrol unit by myself in a ward and taking the first alarm call at a church at 5pm on a Wednesday I believed it had to be a break in as there cound't be any other excuse, adrenaline pumping, factoring in all my officer safty techniques learned at the academy and going over in my mind what I was going to do "When", not if, I caught the bad guy, a few thousand alarms later, unless fired upon at an alarm call, my blood pressure probably drops rather that raises, I still use all the officer safty techniques, just without the adrenaline.

Lifes hard, get a helmet.

Been in security for a little over six years myself, and if its dragging you down that much, get out while you can.  Starting your own company ain't gonna be easy by a long shot.  And the insurance you'll have to pay is insane!  Being nosey, i once saw what one company of mine was paying out and it was five digits, and i'm not sure if that was just for the month.  Odin is very blunt, but if its gotten to you that bad, its time to move on.

I've only been in security a year or so and no it has not changed me. I guess this is similar to being in the military and in my particular job being around Type A, over achiever, know everything fighter pilots. I have learned over the years that they get served everything on a silver platter, but when they really need something, they called on someone like me who enlisted, wears stripes and has as much or more education then they do; college and experience. I've had my share of run ins with newbie Lt's and Cpt's. Put em in their place as well. Here at the company we secure, they are just like that and I can tell they look down at me as just a lowly security guard. But, if one of them keels over at his or her desk, guess who they dial when they they hit 911 in the building? Guess who would be the first responder. If security is causing you feel like this, I agree, get out.

Has security destroyed your personality?

No illegal immigration, medical care, S.S. reform and gas prices did that. Security just gave me a place to vent my frustration.
